Welcome to the Pascua Yaqui Bar Association

Founded in 2009, the Pascua Yaqui Bar Association has set out to establish a tradition of service to the legal profession and the greater Pascua Yaqui community, bringing lawyers together to join in a strong organization that works to achieve objectives that transcend the individual. The PYBA looks forward to providing programs and services designed to improve our local judicial system, foster & enhance the quality of legal services in our community, and provide educational and professional programs for our members. New Justice Complex nearing completion.

Pascua Yaqui Multi-Purpose Justice Center

The Pascua Yaqui Multipurpose Justice Center is scheduled to open sometime in March-April 2012.    The main building on the site will be a two-story, 52,700sf structure and provide new facilities for both the Courts and the Police Department.  The Court’s section  of the building will house three court rooms, offices for all judicial staff as well as offices for Probation and Pre-Trial Services.  

Beginning in April 2012, the new Mailing address for the Court facility will be 7777  South Huivisim, Building B, Tucson, AZ  85757.   All other court contact information, including landline phones, fax numbers, cell phones and email addresses will remain the same.

A grand opening for the new facility is tentatively scheduled for mid-May of 2012.

Pascua Yaqui Judge Nominated by U.S. Attorney General

National Advisory CommitteeAssociate Judge Melvin Stoof has been nominated by United States Attorney General Eric Holder to serve a two year term on the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women.    This advisory committee was chartered on March 3, 2010, to provide advice and recommendations to the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services on how to improve the Nation’s response to violence against women, with a specific focus on successful interventions with children and teens who witness and/or are victimized by domestic violence and sexual assault.

The Attorney General’s goal is to bring together experts, advocates, researchers, and criminal justice professionals for the exchange of innovative ideas and the development of practical solutions to help the United States address and prevent these serious problems.

We would like to congratulate Judge Stoof on his appointment to this important federal advisory committee.

Court Welcomes International Visitors

On September 10, 2010 Pascua Yaqui Judges and Court Administration met with international foreign policy advisors, educators, foreign ministers and other governmental dignitaries from Canada, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Mexico, and Paraguay.

In conjunction with the U. S. Dept of State and the Tucson Council for International Visitors, the tribal court has coordinated and hosted comparative justice forums with various international government groups (4-5 times a year) since 2007.

On May 25, 2010 Pascua Yaqui Judges and Court Administration met with international foreign policy advisors, educators and other governmental dignitaries from Greece, India, Israel, Romania and Singapore.

In conjunction with the U. S. Dept of State and the Tucson Council for International Visitors, the tribal court has coordinated and hosted comparative justice forums with various international government groups (4-5 times a year) since 2007.
